EVALUATION CRITERIA

How Applications Are Evaluated

KCSF takes a holistic approach to scholarship selection. Applications are reviewed by volunteer assessors and evaluated based on the requirements and selection criteria established for each scholarship.

Depending on the scholarship, consideration may include:

• Academic Achievement - Academic performance, commitment to learning, and achievement in the context of the applicant's educational experience.

• Leadership - Initiative, responsibility, influence, and demonstrated ability to contribute positively to others.

• Community Involvement - Meaningful engagement and contribution to school, community, cultural, volunteer, professional, or other activities.

• Essay & Application - Thoughtfulness, clarity, self-awareness, reflection, and the applicant's ability to communicate their experiences, aspirations, values, and potential.

• Personal Qualities & Future Potential - Character, initiative, perseverance, integrity, commitment, and potential for future growth and contribution.

Individual scholarships may establish additional eligibility or evaluation criteria.

A Note About the Chung/Banz Achievement & Opportunity Award

For the Chung/Banz Achievement & Opportunity Award, financial need and a minimum B+ equivalent academic average are eligibility requirements rather than competitive scoring criteria.

Applicants who meet both thresholds will advance to the competitive selection process. Financial need will not be weighted based on degree of need, and the scholarship is not intended simply for the applicant with the highest grades. Instead, eligible applicants will be considered holistically based on their academic commitment, perseverance, leadership, community involvement, character, application, and future potential.
