Scholarship FAQ

1.       Can I save my partially completed application form online so that I may re-open and complete it at a later date prior to the deadline?

Yes – KCSF has partnered with Kaleidoscope to provide applicants a seamless and streamlined way to submit applications. Once you register with a valid e-mail address, you will be able to save your progress and make edits to your application until it is submitted.

2.       What documentation do I need for the scholarship application?

A list of all required documentations can be found in the “How Do I Apply” section under the “Scholarship” tab of our website.

3.       What do you accept as proof of registration?

We prefer a letter from your school registrar confirming your enrolment, or confirmation from the school regarding payment of tuition fees.

4.       My school does not provide the official transcript in PDF form. Can I arrange for my official transcripts to be e-mailed directly by the school to KCSF?

We suggest that you order your official transcripts in paper form. You can then scan the paper form and save it in PDF format. We may ask for the original for verification purposes.

5.       Do you require reference letters to be in a particular form?

There is no specific format. You may want to provide the referee with information on the evaluation criteria found on the KCSF website to assist the referee in preparing the reference letter.

6.       Can a reference letter be sent directly by the referee to KCSF?

It is strongly preferred that you collect your reference letters from your referees and directly attach them as PDF files on the online application form. If your referee will only submit a reference letter directly to KCSF, please ask them to e-mail it directly to scholarships@kcsf.ca, using the following subject line format: “Reference Letter for [FIRST NAME] [LAST NAME] – [Institution Name]” (e.g., “Reference Letter for John Lee – University of Toronto). If you choose the latter option, we will not be able to notify you when or if the letter is received. In this case, we strongly recommend confirming with your referee directly to ensure that their letter reaches KCSF by the deadline. Note that we do not accept hard copies of reference letters.

7.       For the essay question for the scholarship application, should I include all the suggested topics or only ones I feel strongly about?

Donald Choi Canada Award of Excellence: You must write about one of the topics listed in the Donald Choi Essay question form.

All Other Scholarships: The essay topic is open. We have only provided you with suggested topics for your guidance. These are suggestions only and you may choose to write about any of them or write about another topic of your choice. However, if you wish to be considered for the Hakyoo Park Humanitarian Award, the essay must demonstrate your vision of serving the community through religious or humanitarian work, and if you wish to be considered for the Park Family Foundation Leadership Award, the essay must demonstrate your exceptional initiative and/or leadership.

8.       Can I apply for both the bursary and the scholarship?

Yes, you may apply for both the bursary and the scholarship in the same year.

9.       I am enrolled part-time. Am I still eligible to apply for a scholarship?

No, only students enrolled full-time may apply.

10.   Can my resume and/or reference letters be provided in Korean?

All documents should be written in English. Alternatively, we will accept a certified translation supplied together with the Korean version.

11.   Do I need to be a Korean Canadian student in order to be eligible for a KCSF scholarship or bursary?

Applicants must be of Korean heritage or are able to evidence a significant and meaningful connection to the Korean community. If you are not of Korean heritage, you will be asked in the application form to describe your significant connection to the Korean community.

12.   My question is not covered by this FAQ section. Who should I contact?

All other inquiries relating to the KCSF bursary applications should be directed to: scholarships@kcsf.ca.
