KCSF LEAD Program

KCSF LEAD is KCSF’s premier leadership development program that is provided to all KCSF Scholarship Recipients. The LEAD program is designed to support each recipient's personal and professional growth through Leadership, Engagement with community, Advancement on your path to success, and Development of character and core competency skills.

The LEAD program offers access to valuable educational resources, practical learning opportunities, and mentorship, and all KCSF bursary recipients are expected to participate in the LEAD program (unless exceptional circumstances prevent them from doing so).

What is the Vision of the LEAD Program?

The LEAD Program is KCSF’s premier program available to KCSF Scholarship recipients and focuses on Leadership, Engagement with community, Advancement on your path to success (personally and professionally), and Development of character and core competency skills. KCSF’s LEAD program is designed to better promote the success of our KCSF Scholars, and to equip our KCSF Scholars with valuable educational resources, practical learning opportunities, access to mentorship, and a peer network that will grow with you as you advance.

What will the LEAD Program entail?

The LEAD Program will be delivered in two (2) primary components:

  1. Education Component: KCSF will provide unique training modules in specific

    core areas designed to be relevant to the Korean Canadian lived experience;

    and,

  2. Practical Component: KCSF will provide an opportunity to gain valuable

    experience in project development, planning, and implementation of a program

    or an event delivered to the broader Korean Canadian community.

The Education Component will cover the following key areas:

  • Designing Your Career/Life Path

  • Effective Communication to Your Audience

  • Leading Teams/Mentorship

  • Working in Teams/Conflict Management

  • Wellness and Korean Canadian Identity

KCSF will work with instructors, consultants, or educators to deliver the educational sessions, drawing from the Korean Canadian community where possible. These educational sessions are intended to complement resources that may already be available in your university or through other organizations.

The Practical Component will involve you choosing one of several KCSF programs or events to participate as a team member. Examples of the types of programs or events that may be offered include:

  • Soiree – Premier Korean Canadian professional networking event (200+ attendees);

  • Konnect – Overnight mentorship camp for secondary school students focusing on soft-skills and Korean Canadian identity;

  • Conferences – KCSF has held numerous conferences exploring engaging and important topics relevant to young Korean Canadians, featuring dynamic speakers from diverse professions

  • Webinars – KCSF has held several webinars delivered across the country, providing important education to diverse audiences

As a participant on a team, you will work with members of KCSF leadership and volunteer teams at varying stages of their careers. Project planning will provide opportunities for organic mentorship and relationship building, as well as opportunities to develop valuable practical experience that supplements career aspirations.

Subject to funding, the LEAD Program may include an overnight retreat with all of the KCSF Scholars with exciting and meaningful programming.

How long does the LEAD Program last?

It is anticipated that the education component will take place over 10 sessions – primarily virtual – over the course of three to four months (May to August, 2026).

The practical component will be dependent on the program or event that you select and the time required to prepare and deliver the program or event. Such opportunities will be available at various times throughout the year.

How much does the LEAD Program cost?

The LEAD Program does not cost anything for our KCSF Scholars. The program will be made possible through the support of generous donors, corporate sponsors, and other grant programs. For the 2025-2026 year, the LEAD Program is in its pilot phase and some of the components will be subject to securing the necessary levels of funding.

If funding can be secured for a retreat, there may be travel costs that may be necessary, depending on where you are studying or reside. KCSF will make every effort to subsidize reasonable travel costs, or a portion of such costs.

Is it mandatory to participate in the LEAD Program?

The LEAD Program is KCSF’s new phase of its scholarship program. It is designed to provide our KCSF Scholars with the best chance for success and to develop the future generation of leaders, changemakers and champions of the broader Korean Canadian community. Unless you have exceptional circumstances preventing participation in the LEAD Program, KCSF expects all selected scholarship recipients to participate in the LEAD Program to the best of your ability.
